How to use 110 appropriately
- “110” is the emergency phone number in case of crimes or accidents occurring.
- If it is not an emergency, go to the nearest police station or police box, and consult or inquire to a police officer there.
- Calling 110, you will be connected to the communication and command center of the (area) police headquarters.
- If you can not communicate in Japanese, we will connect you to an interpreter, so do not hang up.
- Calm down and answer the questions by the call-taker.
- While you are reporting to the call-taker, other police officers are dispatched to the scene.
- Do not use a mobile phone to call 110 while you are driving or walking.
- Move to a secure place and call 110 to keep a good connection and avoid a traffic accident. Be sure to tell the name of the municipality of the scene of crime or accident.
- If you dial 110 by mistake, explain the call-taker that it is a mistake. If you just hang up without telling so,a police car will be dispatched to confirm whether you are safe.
