Community Safety Police - For safer and more secure Hokkaido
Community safety police promote the activities to prevent crimes to realize safe and secure community for people in Hokkaido. We also control vice crimes, environmental crimes, cyber crimes, and criminal matters
concerning stalking or spousal violence. We also promote the activities to prevent juvenile delinquency and to protect women and children from fear of crime.
Your cooperation is necessary to keep the safety in your community.

Community Police - To protect the safety of the local community
Community police officers (uniformed officers) at KOBAN (police boxes) and CHUZAISHO (residentialpolice boxes) are the closest existence to the people in local community.
Community police officers at police boxes patrol the local community day
and night, prevent and control the crimes and accidents. In case of emergency,
community police officers rush to the scene of crime or accident, conduct the investigation and rescue the victims. Community police officers visit houses and offices, give advice on crime prevention and listen to residents’ concerns and suggestions.
Criminal Investigation Police - To solve the cases
Criminal investigation police investigate theft crimes and felonious crimes
including murder, robbery and injury cases, control BORYOKUDAN (organized
crime groups) crimes, and solve crimes concerning drugs and guns, and intellectual
crimes including fraud, embezzlement and bribery cases. Criminal investigation
police take all measures to solve the cases.

Traffic Police - To protect the precious life
Traffic police work for citizens not to encounter traffic accidents. Traffic police are responsible for control of traffic violations, investigation of traffic accidents, traffic safety campaigns with local government and people of the community, traffic safety education for children, the elderly and others, traffic regulation for secure and smooth mobility and appropriate driver’s license administration.
Security Police - To prepare for security measures and disaster rescue
Security police prevent and investigate the acts of terrorism, protect the critical public facilities, provide the dignitary protection, and take various measures to respond to storm, flood, earthquake, tsunami and other natural disasters and to rescue the victims. Security police keep the security force highly trained to maintain their ability.
Hokkaido Prefectural Police School - Training the professionals to protect the people in Hokkaido
Police school provides the education and training to develop the police officers for being trusted and familiar. All the trainees must live in the dormitory. They build the bonds with other trainees and grow up as reliable police officers to exercise their power to realize the social justice.
A person who has passed the recruitment examination will be appointed as a rank of police officer and must enter the police school. At the police school, trainees lead regular lives in group for six to ten months
and learn the basics to act in the front line. Under the principle of serious learning, self-development and observance of discipline and order for organizational activities, trainees acquire humanities, knowledge, strength and irreplaceable bond with the colleague of same will through the group life.
HOKUTO-KUN - A symbol mascot of Hokkaido Prefectural Police
HOKUTO-KUN is a mascot to symbolize the inhabitants of Hokkaido, namely hare, owl, horse, fox, etc. and to express the ideal of Hokkaido Prefectural Police
○ to listen to the suggestions and concerns of people in Hokkaido by a hare’s big ears
○ to protect the people in Hokkaido from crime or accident by an owl’s good eyes
○ to rush and respond to crime and accident by a horse and fox’s fast running.
HOKUTO-KUN is named after HOKUTO-SHICHISEI (Big Dipper) brightly shining in the northern sky,which we compare Hokkaido Prefectural Police acting for bright future of Hokkaido and crime-free community.
